The inspiration for this title came from a moment of restlessness during my writing group this week.
The words failed to come to me as I thought they should and while absentmindedly playing with the label on my pen these words looked up at me, like that pleading face emoji of desperate sadness: ‘Please don’t write upward’ it said, so politely.
Practically, I knew that this meant I shouldn’t write upside down.
But, of course, the poet in me transformed this into a personal message from God direct to the restless, procrastinating writer within me: ‘don’t write where the pen isn’t leading’ I heard, ‘don’t write against the inevitable pull of gravity’.
I spiralled, in perhaps the best way possible, and thought about all the other areas in which this could apply. What is the gravitational pull on my life? The consistent tug and calling that I’ve been resisting?
I know, at least one, it’s the call to create, to write and to share that I’ve been pushing away from in favour of the security and certainty of anonymity.
And so, I’m here, pulling together the words to start, uncertain about the direction it’s likely to grow, but confident that serendipitous moments in my own thoughts will lead me in the right direction.
Absolutely love the inspiration from the tiny details and finding the beauty in the mundane! Thank you for finally sharing your writing on a platform so we can enjoy the musings within your mind 🫶🏻
Looking forward to more poetic, serendipitous thoughts from you. 😊
